2024 AIR Application

Step 1: Guidelines
Confirm that you have read the guidelines, and click “next”.

Step 2: Submission
Upload or embed your work samples:

• Work Samples
  Please share three work samples from the past 5 years. Panelists will review a combined total of no more than 15 minutes. For videos longer than 5 minutes, please include a timestamp in the “Item Description” for the jurors. Work samples may be uploaded as PDF, JPG, MP3, MP4, MPEG, GIF, and PNG files. External Media can be embedded from Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify, and Vimeo.

Step 3: Application Form
Enter the following information and click “submit”:

• Name of Applicant 
  Please include preferred pronouns. For groups/collaborations, please list the group name.  

• Name of Additional Collaborators 
  For groups with 2+ artists, please list the name of all collaborators with preferred pronouns.. Please list the name of the main point of contact for the group. The contact information for this person should be used for the “Contact Details” section below. 

• Please select the mediums that best describe your artistic practice.
  Please select the three most relevant  categories.

• Artistic Bio (150 word limit)
  Include personal history/artistic influences, as well as relevant education, training, experience. For groups: If relevant, you may choose to include brief bios for all or some of the artists in the group.

• Artist Statement (500 word limit)
  Please provide an artist statement and address how your proposed project relates to your art practice.

• Project Proposal (300 word limit)
  Please provide an overview of the project(s) proposed for the Residency year, including details about how you will realize your work. 

• Residency Timeline and Studio Use (400 word limit)
  Describe how you plan to work on the project(s) over the residency year. Please include how and when you envision using the HCL studio. Feel free to use a mix of bullet points, dates, and narrative.

• Residency Goals & Needed Support (500 word limit)
  What are your goals for the residency and how can HCL support these goals? Please identify which residency resources you see your project relying on, and if there is any additional support that you need in order to realize your project.

• Project Budget [Optional but encouraged] (400 word limit)
  Please provide an overview of expected project costs and, if relevant, projected revenue. HCL provides Artists in Residence with a $1000 stipend to help offset project costs. Please address how this stipend can support your work, and how you foresee covering any additional expenses.
