Lab E: Convening of Chicago's Disabled Artists

LabE grew out of a convening of Chicago’s disabled dance artists in late 2022. A year later, we’re expanding the program to serve the wider disability arts community.

Join us for a convening of Chicago’s disabled artists where we’ll think together about the future of the program. What supports would be most useful to developing your artistic practice? What do you feel is most needed to continue building Chicago’s disability art community? Let’s reflect on what we’ve accomplished so far and continue building LabE as a platform to support Chicago’s disabled artists.

The convening will be facilitated by Maggie Bridger, Andy Slater, and Reveca Torres and is open to Deaf, disabled, sick, neurodivergent, and Mad artists (including those working through their relationship to these categories) working in all mediums.

Rigo Saura | Research Lab: Searching Material & Improvisation

Research Lab: Searching Material & Improvisation is designed for any artistic mover who has the curiosity to express, explore and dialogue through movement. These sections are focused on exploration, improvisation and connection with yourself and others in the room. Led by Rigo Saura, Research Lab: Searching Material & Improvisation provides five hours in the studio where you can put your creativity and inspiration to play, connect with other artistic visions, and find enrichment through both observing and sharing your knowledge. These sections have a four-step structure: Warm-up, Improvisation, Creation and Presentation.

The culminating presentation step will pull together all the information and knowledge that we will be working on in the other steps to create a small work that we can share with guests (friends, family and students) at the end of the day.
