Phia Morris is a Chicago-born and based artist, archivist, and arts researcher. With a background in the fine arts, Phia’s interdisciplinary practice spans ethnographic research, experimental painting, film photography, and writing, with a theoretical focus on blackqueer embodiment, collective memory work, and disability studies. Phia’s work encourages their audience to engage with art intimately, while drawing connections between historical contexts, contemporary issues, and artistic methodologies. With a career focus on curatorial work and a background in gallery operations and community programming, Phia advocates for accessible spaces that foster dialogue, debate, and reflection within the arts. From leading workshops on sustainable art practices to project managing public programs on underrepresented narratives within historical institutions, Phia is committed to dismantling barriers to diverse access and engagement and uplifting underrepresented narratives.

Phia currently attends the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where they are pursuing a BFA in Visual and Critical Studies, with academic history in Cultural Theory, Criticism, and Curation at Central Saint Martins at the University of Arts London. Their work has been shown at John St. Gallery, Gallery DAAS, Heaven Gallery, and Hyde Park Art Center.

Phia recently joined the High Concept Labs team as the Summer 2025 Residency Assistant Intern and is excited to work alongside the artists in residence to collectively challenge conventions and push the boundaries of artistic expression and representation.
