Eligibility
We encourage applications from artists who meet the following criteria:
Located in the Chicagoland area throughout the residency period (January-December 2024);
Not enrolled in a degree-seeking program during the residency period (January-December 2024);
Ability to commit time and resources to the proposed project through the residency period; 8+ hours per week is recommended;
Interest in presenting works-in-development to public audiences;
Needs of artistic practice are aligned with the resources available through HCL;
Are at a moment in which access to a studio and supportive environment will be particularly meaningful to their practice.
Artists accepted into the program are expect to meet the following requirements:
Participate in program orientation (December 2023);
Active participation in the program from Jan 2024 - December 2024;
Participate in ongoing check-in meetings with HCL staff (typically monthly);
Support HCL’s efforts to promote Artists in Residence, i.e. coordination of photography and videography, social media promotion, etc;
Share residency-related projects through Open Labs or other public engagements;
At conclusion of the program, provide feedback through an exit interview and/or anonymous survey.
In the case of applicants who are applying as part of a group, all members of that group are expected to meet the eligibility criteria and program requirements. We ask that one member of the group be selected as the Lead Artist, who will act as the main point of contact for the group throughout the residency period.
